Why the North American Economic Security Mission Matters for Canadian Business

Dear Chamber colleagues,

Next month, I’ll be joining business leaders, policymakers, and industry experts in Washington, D.C., for the North American Economic Security Mission—a two-day gathering focused on the future of trade and economic collaboration across Canada, the United States, and Mexico.

With the 2026 review of the Canada-United States-Mexico Agreement (CUSMA) on the horizon, this mission comes at a critical time. The conversations we have now—about tariffs, cross-border partnerships, and economic security—will shape how we do business in the years ahead.

This mission is more than a policy discussion. It’s an opportunity to listen, learn, and lead—to bring the voice of Canadian business into the room where decisions are made. We’ll hear directly from provincial representatives from Ontario, Quebec, Saskatchewan, and Alberta, alongside key partners like the U.S. Chamber of Commerce, the Canadian Embassy, and the International Chamber of Commerce Mexico. Together, we’ll explore:

  • The future of CUSMA and how changes could impact our industries
  • Navigating trade policy to build resilient cross-border partnerships
  • Strengthening strategic collaboration across North America, even in times of global uncertainty

The program includes briefings at the Embassy of Canada and the U.S. Chamber of Commerce, panel discussions on the future of trade, and an open exchange of ideas with industry and policy experts.

For me, this mission is a reminder that trade policy isn’t abstract—it’s deeply personal for our businesses, our communities, and the people we serve. The work we do here has a ripple effect: the relationships we build, the insights we gain, and the actions we take all contribute to a stronger, more connected North American economy.

I look forward to sharing what I learn along the way—insights that can help our local business community navigate the challenges and opportunities ahead.

Let’s keep the conversation going—because the future of Canadian business is built on the strength of our relationships, both at home and beyond our borders.
